The 500E/E500 remains one of the most intriguing of Mercedes’ super-saloons. If you’re reading this you’re most likely more than aware of their development and partial build by Porsche over a convoluted eighteen-day period for each car. Just 29 were officially sold in the UK on account of their high price and availability in left-hand drive only. However, the model became an instant classic, with often quite high-profile enthusiasts won over by its combination of subtlety and towering performance. ‘An iron fist in a velvet glove’ is a phrase that sums up the 500E perfectly. Whilst many more 500E/E500s have been imported since production ended, a great deal have suffered ill-advised modification, past accident damage and attempts to update them in appearance. To my mind the most desirable and collectable (apart from an AMG E60) car to buy would be an early 500E in completely standard, unmolested condition, which is exactly what I found in this car. This 1992 500E is a one-owner car. It is in completely standard and very original condition. The fabulous Bornite paintwork is almost all original with the correct Violet Grey lower half. It wears its correct 16” 8-hole alloy wheels shod with a matching set of Bridgestone tyres, all with excellent tread. The headlights are the correct (LH traffic) Hella units and the stereo is the original Mercedes-branded Becker Mexico. Together with electric/memory/heated leather seats and automatic climate, it’s well specified example. All original books/manuals and tools come with the car, along with a full service history. The last service was less than 1000km ago. The 500E is in beautiful order throughout with absolutely no corrosion. Having evidently been beautifully maintained the car is very tight to drive with correct oil pressure and temperature readings. A rare opportunity to buy an original, one-owner example of a performance icon.
Optional Extras Front seat left hand electrically adjustable with memory (241) Front seat right hand electrically adjustable with memory (242) Black leather trim (271A) Passenger airbag (291) Storage box in front tray (300) Electric sliding sunroof (412) Electric adjustable steering column (441) Folding armrest (570) Automatic climate control (581) Heat insulating glass (592) Becker Mexico stereo (758) CD Changer in boot (818) Seat heater for left and right front seats
