This superb, highly original W115 230.4 has covered just 43,766 miles from new, largely in the hands of one owner, backed up by a fantastic service history. And has recently had £11.5k spent on a substantial mechanical refurbishment.
Supplied new on August 1st 1974 by Mercedes-Benz suppliers, Autocars of Streatham Hill, London SW2 to a Mr Damani, this four-cylinder 230, equipped with automatic transmission, was finished in 903 Blue with matching blue cloth interior. In 1976 the car passed to a Dr Kahn in Southwest London who kept the car for the next thirty years. The car was evidently his pride and joy, always garaged, used sparingly and only ever serviced and repaired by Mercedes main dealers.
In 2016 John Haynes carried out a thorough assessment and overhaul of the car, including a major service comprising of all fluids and filters, a complete new exhaust system was fitted, the rear hubs and wheel bearings were replaced. New brake calipers, pads, discs, pipes and flexible hoses were fitted all round. New front subframe mounts were fitted. All coolant hoses were replaced along with gearbox cooler hoses and the radiator was re-cored. New fuel hoses were also fitted. Genuine MB parts were used throughout where possible, even down to the new battery. The tyres were replaced with period correct Michelin MXV-P radials (at a cost of £859).
In total the two bills add up to £11,555.44.
In 2018, specialist trimmers D-Class replaced the headlining and retrimmed the rear seat in the original materials.
In terms of paperwork, this car has an amazing history. Full Mercedes-Benz service history for 32 years of the cars life, MoT certificates from 1977 onwards, all books/manuals, stamped service book and data card. In addition, there are the above mentioned bills.
In terms of condition this W115 is highly original and in superb condition. The paintwork is largely original and in excellent order. The underside is exceptional – no corrosion or previous welding.
The interior is similarly good thanks to the recent trimming work. The carpets and door cards are superb, the front seats are original and free from tears but have a little fading and the dash is superb apart from a small split in the centre.
In summary, this is a lovely, low mileage very solid very original car with a great history that has had a fortune spent on it. A great classic that’s so very usable today.
