A fantastic value SL that’s ready to enjoy in the summer ahead. A very original car that’s been in the hands of one owner since 1996.
First registered in August 1991 by the Sunningdale Carriage Company in Berkshire, this 300SL-24 is finished in Pearl Grey metallic with a navy blue leather interior and navy hood. As with all SLs it comes with electric hood, seats, windows, plus it has headlamp wash/wipe and cruise control.
Pleasingly, this early R129 retains its original appearance with amber indicators, two-tone paintwork and original wheels, unlike so many.
Being the 24-valve model (the mid-point in the SL range), it offers 231bhp – a vast improvement over the basic 300’s 188bhp.
This SL has had four keepers in total, but crucially the last bought the car in 1996 and proved so good that he kept it 22 years, taking the mileage up to 167k miles.
All books and manuals come with the car along with a folder of invoices showing regular at one garage. Two keys and and a clear HPI Certificate.
The engine runs beautifully with correct oil pressure and temperature readings, the gearbox changes smoothly and, all in all, this SL drives very well indeed. The factory hardtop is with the car and the electric hood works correctly. Matching Avon tyres all round. MoT until 29/10/18.
As the photos show, this 300SL looks very good and is clean and tidy, but has a few cosmetic imperfections commensurate with its age. A perfect car to use and enjoy, and improve if the inclination takes you.
These early R129 SLs are beautifully built, long-lasting cars and were tremendously expensive and desirable when new. What superb value today and perfect for summer motoring.
