To commemorate forty years of the SL roadsters, Mercedes built 500 Special Edition R129 SLs worldwide. 150 of those were right-hand drive and came to the UK to be sold at the beginning of 1998.
These Special Edition SLs were split between 320s and 500s, and were comprehensively equipped, featuring Designo paintwork, Xenon headlights, AMG wheels, memory seats, half-wood steering wheel and gear knob, along with ‘Special Edition’ plaques to the sill steps and centre console. This car is the desirable 500, equipped with the coveted glass panoramic hard top.
Supplied new by Rivervale Mercedes of Brighton in April 1998, this SL500 has covered 118,092 miles from new. This is backed up by a Full Service History – main dealer and specialist – comprising of 14 stamps, along with a folder full of supporting invoices. Recent work has included a gearbox fluid and filter change, new cam oiler tubes, new front springs, new starter motor, battery, A/C condenser, new hood windows and a matching set of new Continental tyres.
The car has all original books and manuals and two remote keys. HPI clear with certificate.
As the photos show this SL is in very nice condition throughout and it really does drive particularly well.
In summary, a rare, desirable highly specified Special Edition SL500 with a great history at a very sensible price.
